The first 2 weeks of my time in my residency with Silverwood Parks mostly consisted of emails and meetings to confirm my availability and possible plans for my lesson plan
In week three we emailed about the February schedule and what I would be interested in observing that month and I observed my first lesson
Kolrosing program with Cora Williams
Cora Introduces herself and Silverwood
Goes over materials within the kit
Brief history of kolrosing
Question from the chat (“how is kolrosing different from carving?”)
Demo of multiple techniques with both an organic shaped design and a geometric shaped design
Listing order of process in the chat after the demo (multiple ways of giving the information for accessibility as well as a follow up email to students with it as well as other resource links)
Answered questions in chat and work time for the rest of the time slot
Most of the questions being about what types of things could be used in the process other than cocoa powder or cinnamon, how often might you have to repeat the process to keep the design looking good, and possible methods of preserving the design.
Students given the option of whether or not to share their work at the end so students aren't under pressure to share their work if they are uncomfortable
I’ve noticed the online format can be rather uncomfortable and awkward so there is an added challenge of trying to keep the space light and welcoming and keeping the camera in the right position to make what you’re demoing is something to be mindful of with online instruction
In the 4th week I had planned on observing another lesson but didn’t end up receiving the zoom links in order to observe however I was able to get recordings to review when I get the time so as to not miss out on the observation completely and also discussed the schedule for March for possible observations.
