Hannah Northup is currently an illustrator studying at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She is also minoring in the Teaching Artist program and expecting to graduate in May of 2017. She is a recipient of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design Presidential Scholarship as well as the Winton Johns Education Scholarship. She also participates in the Rising Artist’s Showcase around Minnesota to exhibit her work.
When teaching, she challenges students through engagement in critical thinking and help them develop communication skills through their art. She introduces each piece using fundamentals, and then adds challenges throughout the creative process to expand a students mind and encourage them to explore possibilities through their pieces. By working with K-12, community organizations, as well as arts and aging, she is able to work with a wide variety of populations. Between illustration and painting, she uses a variety of media to think of pieces as metaphors that allow students to communicate thoughts, feelings, and life experiences.
