1/25 - 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm - Volunteering at Whittier Elementary School

  • Helping students put together cardboard cars for the twin cities art shanty

  • 3 groups of students, 1st group ended up arriving 20 minutes late so some groups ended up overlapping,

    • mostly helping students figure out what they wanted to make with their cars, and helping hot glue things on (lots of varied ideas between the kids!)

  • Groups were k-1, then 3rd-5th (which ended up overlapping with the last group) and then 2nd, if I remember correctly,

    • the room was bustling by the end of the session, due to the limited number of hands available to help kids hot glue

    • (Mari (internship supervisor) informed me that on usual days, there’s about 1 helper per kid, so this day was busier than the norm)

  • Wrapped up with cleanup

    • turning off hot glue guns

    • gathering up staplers and scissors

    • putting away leftover supplies

    • making sure all the cardboard cars were stowed away with their corresponding materials
