Community of Peace Academy, Teacher Ms. Lor, High School, 5 hours.
Minnesota Museum of American Art, 4 Hours.
This week for CPA, I helped the teacher with organizing sheets of paper of a project of one of her classes that finished. I also talked to students and got to know a few. Some wanted to know more about my education and my college and wanted some advice when I was a high school student at CPA, community of peace academy. I helped them finish their do-now’s sheets that was due on Friday. But Ms. Lor challenged me to push the students to finish their do-now’s if they haven’t done so. I was glad that some students finally asked more my help and was comfortable to ask me to help them because the other times they were shy. My goal for next week is to get to know more students. This week, the students started their new project and it is acrylic paint. Ms. Lor had them start with a sheet that was their thumbnail and had to know what their background, foreground and mid-ground was going to be. The project was to have a background, mid-ground and foreground. Then, they are going to paint the background first than the mid-ground than the foreground. She wants them to understand on what to paint first or when doing a drawing, on environments. I gave feedback to those who were finished with their thumbnails before they could start their final sketching. I ended up with Ms. Lor and I talking about my final project with her class. We decided on the date when I am going to be teaching and what period. I came up with a few ideas and we decided to go with one! I am very excited to get it started! But now my question is, what would the students learn from me?
For MMAA event was an amazing experience! I learned how to do Hmong embroidery! I also learned some key history and the tradition of the Hmong embroidery. There were supposed to be more students but they canceled so I decided to be one of her students and assist the artist. The artist taught me how to do it step by step and the easy one to learn for beginners was the easy stitching. Down below, are some pictures of the day I assist and learned Hmong embroidery. It takes months to do it by hand.
I am going to assist them on March because it’s a 3 day classes, 2 weeks ago, one class was canceled. While she was teaching me, I learned one advice from her, which inspired me and made me think about myself and my future teachings. Her advice was, ‘when you’re doing your embroidery do it when you are in positive mood because if you’re not, your embroidery is going to show. Be patience and the more you put your time and focus, it’ll show.’ And I thought to myself, that what she said was true! Even with drawings or writings. It will show your work on how much the focus or patience you put it in.
