Hawaii Native Simone Alexa is pursuing a BFA in Drawing and Painting with a minor in Art History and Engaged Public Arts. Raised in a melting pot of diversity Alexa has a unique perspective on representation. This has inspired her to make work about empowering and healing black and brown bodies. Through multiple mediums such as painting, drawing, digital illustration, and soft sculpture Alexa reconstructs harmful representation for Hawaiian and African American peoples. Other themes include religion, the body, and identity through lenses of fantasy and Afrofuturism. Alexa has been working in children care and in art and theatre since 2016. Mainly in one on one lessons with K-12. In the future Alexa plans to work with all ages and people who don't have art education opportunities. Alexa wants to create art programs for low-income people as well as houseless and incarcerated artist.
