I started my second residency this week at Children’s Residential Treatment Center. I worked on Monday and Tuesday during Carmen’s class. She is an art teacher and also an English teacher. She shared assignments with me to have an idea of how the classroom works. She usually incorporates English with art in her assignments. Currently, students are working on stop motion animation.
On Monday Carmen gave the topic of self- portrait. Students have to choose a word from the vocabulary list that describes them the most and make an animation of it. Some students choose to draw self-portraits and others are still working on the animation.
Students are allowed to use the internet for inspiration. So, some of them search the quotes about the word or some search the images. I have no idea about the animation but I am helping them with the background making and sketching for the animation.
Students are also working on there 10 mins journal entries where they are creating collages, small paintings and tracing drawings. The classroom is relaxing and allows everyone to work at their own pace.
