Community of Peace Academy, Teacher Ms. Lor, High School, 15 hours.

Minnesota Museum of American Art, 0 Hours.

This week was great! For CPA, I finished my hours and my final project that I had to teach the students so in other words a teacher for the day. In total I taught 3 days. The students were very respectful and did an amazing artwork(s).  It was fascinating to see their thumbnails and the progress to create their final design. I guided them and it was up to them to choose what they wanted. Some students wanted more advice or wanted to show me what they were sketching. I had to push some students to add more because they finished very fast.

It’s amazing how they created a design based on three words. The three words are things they were inspired or liked doing or enjoyed. I really enjoyed seeing their creativity to create a design based on their three words. It showed their voices into their designs. The best part for me is seeing their reaction when they got their stickers and they had big smiles and were amazed to see their artwork in stickers. They started exchanging their stickers with their classmates. They never seen this kind of project before. They were used to only clay, paintings, and patterns. So it was very new and different from what they were used to. Down below are all the art works the students created! Also, examples of the process they did to create their final artwork. Do-Now

First, they did their Do-Now. It’s the first thing the students do to get warmed up before class starts. For this do-now was to write down 10 things that they enjoyed, like, or get inspired.

Thumbnails

The students had to create 2 different thumbnails that was inspired by their do-now. They had to pick three words.

Feedback/

Reflection

After they finished with their thumbnails and labeling their ideas, they had to get feedback and talk to their partner about what they wanted to do and what they were thinking. Based on all that, they wrote down what their partner said and for their reflection they had to read through the feedback and decide as artist if they wanted to change their design or add new things or not. They had to explain why or why not.

Final Artwork

After they have figure out what they wanted to keep, they started on sketching on their final paper and inking it and coloring it. Joshua was showing me his final and checking in with me if he was doing it right and wanted feedback.

Final

Here is the students final artwork and with their stickers. Joshua was very amazed on how his work turned into stickers. He never thought that artworks can be used for other things than just hanging on the wall. He was very happy to get his own stickers that he created.

The students did an amazing job and seeing them grow in a few days was satisfying to see and guide them and introduce a project that they were not familiar with. I do believe that it inspired them to see new light. The art teacher wants to hire me for next year to teach this lesson because she really liked the project and the presentation I gave. Which I am very excited and can’t wait to do it again! The teachers were sad that it was my last day and they wished for me to stay even more longer and so does the students. It makes me sad but I can’t wait to go back again even better and more to give for them!

Now that I did everything and got feedback, I learned so much in those few days. On how to make my presentations better for next time and see more creativity again! What really surprised me is that no matter if you are a good artist that can draw, everyone can do it. Everyone has creativity. And almost all the students that I taught, said that art is our voice and our self’s. Some students told me that they learned new stuff that they never knew before. And that is the reason why I wanted to teach to give the students the opportunity to learn new materials and creating art works that can be used in different ways like stickers.
