Week 15 April 28- May 4, 2019

This week was very difficult for homework! I couldn’t do any of my work or homework this week because my laptop storage was full! I needed to get a flash drive but not the small one that I have but the 1TB. Which is expensive. During this week was very difficult because I wanted to do my homework but couldn’t do it until Saturday! In which I got! Which I am very happy and now I need to catch up with homework! I got it!

But overall it was a good week! On Saturday I took the club member’s (I am president of Latines Unides Club at MCAD) out to La Michoacana! Is a snack place where they have different flavors of ice-cream, popsicles, drinks, chips filled with fillings, and Mangonadas! So I was happy to treat my club, to those who came. I think it was good because it was something that the club didn’t do before I and someone else took over last semester. Also, I wanted it to be a treat for them for working hard and being amazing! So it was worth it!  I am planning to take my mentees too! I am a peer mentor and I want to treat my mentees too! Down below are some pictures we took from our fun adventure to La Michoacana!

Also, MCAD Library asked us if we could do a gallery show for next semester!! I screamed and cried! This was the best news I got this year! This is a good opportunity for Latinos/Latinas at MCAD to get us out there in the community and this is our first step!! I sent an email to the club and so far everyone is supper excited! I cannot wait for next semester! At first we applied but got denied but now we got the chance! I did not give up! Also, we want to create shirts for next semester! I think it will be fun to have as a club and something to remember when we get older! We want to create a design that will work best for the club and for sure have the logo of the club on the front of the shirt! Super excited for the summer to create those shirts and to start the gallery show with my club!!

Week 14 April 21-27

This week was very calm even when I started doing my final projects. I am very excited to do two projects from different classes. One is my Illustrations products class in which we can do whatever we want but it has to have 5 things. I am doing my very own planner, sticky Notes, Notebooks, and Folders! In which I always wanted to do! My favorite part will be is when I have them in actual physical products! The second one is my Folk and Fairytale class. Our final project is to create anything we want but we have to pick a fairytale or folklore story to create something new. I am picking a Korean Fairytale, “The Tiger and The Coal Peddler’s Wife.” I am using that story to create a children’s Book cover spread! I never done it before but I always wanted to do it and I love children’s books covers! Ahhh! I can’t wait to start! I have so many different ideas that I want to do but I have to pick one. So I have to decide on what will capture the audience eyes and make it very unique and exciting. But overall I am very excited to start on those two projects.

Week 13 April 14-20, 2019

This week was the busiest for me! I had a small little collaboration with a group that there was going to be the opening on Friday, 19. In my group there are 6 people and including myself is 7. But it was a struggle because my group, there were two people, that wasn’t really communicating well and it made it a bit stressful because we couldn’t put everything up for the final installation or know what they were doing. We had so much to do but on Friday I came very early to do to hand some works and to print their essays. Than 3 people came to help in which they did a great job in getting things to me and they were communicating with the group well. I went with the teacher to get the Pupusas that was the main food for the opening. Which was fun and it was the most beautiful day to go driving! We got the installation done! It was amazing and good. It felt like the opening was inviting and home. It didn’t feel like the other opening in the school. But the installation for my group and the others did an amazing job! I was so happy for my class and my professor who made it possible for this small gallery show. I am very happy with my group, yeah, there were only 2 people who were not on board, but overall I am happy on how we did it and how well we worked hard.

What I learned about this collaboration, it takes patience and communicating is always key but the most important part, for me, was that we all worked together and created an amazing installation!

Down below is our groups installation. We had voice recording on what is our place and that was the point of our installation. We also had our written on what we said in the recordings so people can read along while listening. We used our art pieces to collaborate with it together. To get people to join us and to spread the world we created a poster! In which is the first image.

Week 12 April 7-13, 2019

Minnesota Museum of American Art, 5 Hours.

On Friday, April 12, 2019, was the M’s Alliance Equant ace day. Which was an amazing day! I was helping the teaching artist and different ways of each teaching artist. The point of this event bringing two different schools together to create and learn art.  And it was huge for the museum because it was the first time the M tried something like this so in other words, it was a special day and event. The children came from two different schools and mix the schools within three circles in which the students became friends with the other school. First, the children got in their group with one teaching artist and they talked and drew. Than they went to paint murals and after that it was Lunch time. Than the students got into their group with their teaching artist that was helping them thought the morning. Each teaching artist, had their own activity and system. Down below shows the pictures of the teaching artist and their students and each had different activity and ideas!

First picture.

Here the students had to find a piece of the theme they were assigned. The themes were: Metal, Glass, Wood, Fiber. Each Theme had 3 students and those students who had the theme had to go find an art piece that was made in their material. They had to write down the artist name and the title. After, they had to go and explain on why that piece and why they choose that art piece.

Second picture.

Here the students had to pick a cover magazine that they like and why. Than they talked on what is art and what makes it art. They choose a piece and explain why it makes it art and what doesn’t.

Third Picture.

Here the students were to move the faniture and explain on why they moved and arranged it.

Each teaching artist, made sure that the kids thought of art and used it in different ways.

I was helping the kids behave and taking the children to the bathroom or for a walk. I also helped the teaching artist for extra hands and to watch out for the students. Overall it was a great experience! I took a group of kids, 4, to wash their hands and they asked if I was a teenager. I played along with them and I was making them guess my real age and they were shock but in good way. They said that I’m lucky to look young rather than old. I started laughing and so did they. I think that was the best moments for me. Getting to know the children’s ideas and opinions and thoughts. Which relates to art. Art is our voices, our opinions, our identity, and connecting with people and community.

Week 11 March 31-April 6, 2019

Minnesota Museum of American Art, 4 Hours.

This week I shadow Megan Vossler for her last class for MMAA.Which was drawing the proportions of a human body. Only 3 people came and I organized and clean up and talked about her experience as a teaching artist and professor and advice she gave me to consider in the future. Which I appreciate. I really enjoyed my time with the teaching artist and learned a lot. It made me think more about my future education and what I want to do combining my minor and major together.  Down below are the 3 student’s drawings of the figure.

This week I did my homework which the focus was doing my website and illustration resume. Also, I was searching for a summer job that is related to my major and minor and I got an interview in which I am very excited and nervous!!  Now I need to focus on my interns but I have been struggling on finding one because my search is difficult and don’t know where to do my intern. But before the semester ends, I hope to apply to at least 2 interns! I am not giving up! I also, found out that I finished my sites and my hours and I am super happy to have gotten the chance to experience and learn new things that I never know I could gain from!

Week 10 March 24-30, 2019

Community of Peace Academy, Teacher Ms. Lor, High School, 0 hours.

Minnesota Museum of American Art, 0 Hours.

This week I had no sites to go with. I finished CPA, which I am very sad but satisfied with my final result and my experience. This week I focus on my classes and work and my club. I had time to talk to my members about our final events for the semester! We have many things to do in so little time but it’s going to worth it and very exciting! Which I can’t wait. I also collaborated with a group called, the little Earth, which we are doing an installation at MCAD in 4 weeks. I am very excited because we already have our theme and group members and what we have to do for the final week before the final installation. Our group is very open minded and know what they are talking about and know what they want to gain from this collaboration and opportunity.

This week I did my homework for my classes. I had to read folklore stories which was very good and made me cry. It was very powerful and hard because it was kind of related to the past that effect certain people groups. But besides that, I am doing my portfolio for my major which is Illustration. Also, to fix my Illustration Resume and Business card. That I got critique on which wasn’t so bad but only fixing 3 mistakes that I can fix easily. But the most exciting homework that I have to do is creating toys! I have to create 2 toys that I decide to bring 2 well-known ghost stories that I grew up with and its part of my Latino community which is La LIorona and El Cucuy. Especially when I am going to color the characters. This week was calming and exciting homework and good readings.

Week 9 March 17-23, 2019

Community of Peace Academy, Teacher Ms. Lor, High School, 15 hours.

Minnesota Museum of American Art, 0 Hours.

This week was great! For CPA, I finished my hours and my final project that I had to teach the students so in other words a teacher for the day. In total I taught 3 days. The students were very respectful and did an amazing artwork(s).  It was fascinating to see their thumbnails and the progress to create their final design. I guided them and it was up to them to choose what they wanted. Some students wanted more advice or wanted to show me what they were sketching. I had to push some students to add more because they finished very fast.

It’s amazing how they created a design based on three words. The three words are things they were inspired or liked doing or enjoyed. I really enjoyed seeing their creativity to create a design based on their three words. It showed their voices into their designs. The best part for me is seeing their reaction when they got their stickers and they had big smiles and were amazed to see their artwork in stickers. They started exchanging their stickers with their classmates. They never seen this kind of project before. They were used to only clay, paintings, and patterns. So it was very new and different from what they were used to. Down below are all the art works the students created! Also, examples of the process they did to create their final artwork. Click on the artworks!

Here is everyone’s stickers!

Here is everyone’s stickers!

Here is an example of how they created their final Artwork! The first one is Joshua Irazoque and Trinity Vang.

Do-Now

First, they did their Do-Now. It’s the first thing the students do to get warmed up before class starts. For this do-now was to write down 10 things that they enjoyed, like, or get inspired.

IMG_20190320_181333850.jpg

Thumbnails

The students had to create 2 different thumbnails that was inspired by their do-now. They had to pick three words.

IMG_20190320_181341161.jpg

Feedback/

Reflection

After they finished with their thumbnails and labeling their ideas, they had to get feedback and talk to their partner about what they wanted to do and what they were thinking. Based on all that, they wrote down what their partner said and for their reflection they had to read through the feedback and decide as artist if they wanted to change their design or add new things or not. They had to explain why or why not.

img004 2.jpg

Final Artwork

After they have figure out what they wanted to keep, they started on sketching on their final paper and inking it and coloring it. Joshua was showing me his final and checking in with me if he was doing it right and wanted feedback.

Final

Here is the students final artwork and with their stickers. Joshua was very amazed on how his work turned into stickers. He never thought that artworks can be used for other things than just hanging on the wall. He was very happy to get his own stickers that he created.

The students did an amazing job and seeing them grow in a few days was satisfying to see and guide them and introduce a project that they were not familiar with. I do believe that it inspired them to see new light. The art teacher wants to hire me for next year to teach this lesson because she really liked the project and the presentation I gave. Which I am very excited and can’t wait to do it again! The teachers were sad that it was my last day and they wished for me to stay even more longer and so does the students. It makes me sad but I can’t wait to go back again even better and more to give for them!

Now that I did everything and got feedback, I learned so much in those few days. On how to make my presentations better for next time and see more creativity again! What really surprised me is that no matter if you are a good artist that can draw, everyone can do it. Everyone has creativity. And almost all the students that I taught, said that art is our voice and our self’s. Some students told me that they learned new stuff that they never knew before. And that is the reason why I wanted to teach to give the students the opportunity to learn new materials and creating art works that can be used in different ways like stickers.

Week 8 March 10-16, 2019

Community of Peace Academy, Teacher Ms. Lor, High School, 5 hours.

Minnesota Museum of American Art, 1 Hours.

This week was great! I had a meeting with Nancy, another worker for MMAA. We met and discussed for my final project which is teaching. But this teaching will be different from teaching a class, instead I am going to do a small project that they can do because people are just coming in and it should be at least 10-minute project. I want the project to be related to the theme of the event they are having on Family Day. I have until April 1, 2019 to have some ideas to present to Nancy.  Which I am planning to have the ideas to be related to the theme for family day.

For CPA, I taught! I was the teacher for a day! But I still have to teach two more days! The first day I taught the overall project and the students did their thumbnails and got feedback. They also started to do their final sketch on their final paper. I was very nervous to present or if something wasn’t going to go well but it all worked out! I really enjoyed teaching high schoolers and the students were very respectful and did a very good job! I reviewed my recording and I notice things that I can do better, especially when I am presenting the PowerPoint. I also got feedback from the teacher, Ms. Lor. Which wasn’t a lot but two things. I was very happy because I thought I did a bad job but it turned out great! She also helped me pass out paper and she let me take over the class. The only time she needed to step in is when a student wasn’t doing their job or not being respectful.  But overall it was great! Some students were so into the project while some had trouble and I guide them on what they could had more. Down Below I have one students example of their thumbnail and final sketch!

Final Sketch

Here, the student did the final sketch on their final paper. Before they could do their final sketch, they got feedback from their table and they had to decide if they wanted to change anything or not.

Week 7  March 3-9, 2019

Community of Peace Academy, Teacher Ms. Lor, High School, 6 hours.

Minnesota Museum of American Art, 3 Hours.

This week was great! I had my two sites in the same day! So it was a bit busy but worth it. I learned a lot during this two sites because it made me decide what I want for my future.

In CPA, I mostly, in each class, I handed out clay for the students. And when they needed more clay or material for their clay, they had to come to me to get it, that way it was organized and clean. So the students wouldn’t have a lot of things in their table. Down below there are pictures of the materials they needed and the mask they used to create their mask. The project that they started was creating a mask through their culture or their expression of a mask. Which is awesome and super amazing. That way for the students can express what they want on their mask that reflects themselves. And I saw some students sketch on what they want their mask to look like when its finalized. Ms. Lor took out more mask and I found a mask that was like a fish and I wanted to join the students project and play around with the interesting fish mask, I love fishes. I also helped students to understand how to use water and how to smooth the edges and the surface because they weren’t sure why they needed the water. But overall, I am very excited to see their final mask!

After classes were over, Ms. Lor checked my teaching planning backward and my project that I wanted to teach the students next week. She gave me feedback and explained what works and what won’t work. At first it seemed a lot of information but when I looked closely it wasn’t a lot but a little. I am very nervous and excited at the same time to teach the freshman’s and sophomores.

In MMAA, I helped an artist again! Suzanne Thao is a teaching artist teaching Hmong Embroidery. This week was her last class in which I was very sad. The way she taught me and telling her story made me want to push even harder for what I want to see come true. I really enjoy hearing her story on how she learned. At first she didn’t have the patience or motivation to do it but now she is a mentor teaching to younger youth of the Hmong community but also to people who want to learn Hmong Embroidery. This week, she had more students. Which was exciting to see how she would teach them instead teaching one student. And she did amazing! Down Below are some pictures of the class.

Suzanne Telling Her Story

Suzanne is telling everyone about how she learned to make her Embroidery’s and the struggles of starting.

In CPA, I learned that I wanted to teach in programs for the community for my future and for MMAA, I learned that bringing something you love and important, you can bring it among others and share it. Which can be educational among others. I want those two things for my teaching.

The questions I have is what should I do my future education for teaching? And What can make a project for students be interesting and educational? And Why that project? Where do teachers get their ideas to create their projects that they will be teaching the students?

Week 6 February 25- March 2, 2019

Community of Peace Academy, Teacher Ms. Lor, High School, 0 hours.

Minnesota Museum of American Art, 0 Hours.

This week I had no sites. It gave me time to do my work and focus on things I was putting off.

This week I focus more on my home and had time to take my time on my homework and to fix other homework for extra credit. I mostly worked on was my illustrations. One illustration I had to connect with an organization so I can do an interview and draw a poster for their organization. This project is going to take about a month. I think it’s amazing and a long project than my other projects that I had before. I want to focus on an organization about students with immigrant parents and students that don’t come from resources. I want to help as much as I can and do an amazing job on this project because this project is not about me getting a good grade but for them and representing them in the poster I am going to create. I want to do a very awesome job for this illustration because it’s very important to me and why I became a teaching artist. I also emailed them if they needed help with students with art or have a teacher, I would love to be the one teaching or helping. Now I am waiting for a reply from them.

Week 5 February 18-24, 2019

Week 5 February 18-24, 2019

Community of Peace Academy, Teacher Ms. Lor, High School, 5 hours.

Minnesota Museum of American Art, 4 Hours.

This week for CPA, I helped Ms. Lor class by cleaning and grading papers and giving feedback to students. I cleaned the brushes that the students used to paint on their landscape project. When I finished with the brushes, I graded the students ‘Do-Now’s and their planning sheet that guides helps them with their landscape painting. I realized that I enjoy putting in grades. Somehow it relaxes me and makes me very focus. Knowing which students needs help and understands the assignment. Some students wanted help with blending colors together using acrylic paint. I showed them how to and they understood it why I showed them. Some wanted me to give them advice on what colors were best to use so it won’t take away from everything else. Down below, you can see some of certain student’s landscape paintings, that are not named for their privacy. I believe that they have been showing progress in their landscape painting because they’re starting at the background before they go to the foreground. Another important requirement for this project is to learn how to blend. And the students, that I have seen so far, are doing great and showing progress. I am very excited for next week because Ms. Lor is going to give me feedback on my documents for my teaching! I can’t wait to teach!

In MMAA, was an amazing day! When I arrived at MMAA for a drawing class that I was going to help an artist that was teaching, gesture for a drawing class, named Megan Vossler. Megan is a Teaching artist andreceived her BA from Brown University (Rhode Island), and her MFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Her artwork has been exhibited nationwide. The students that registered was six people, ages from 60-late70’s and they were learning how to draw a model and materials. During this time, it reminded me of when I had my drawings classes that had model that we had to draw too. They had to use a stick and ink and how to use a pencil property and using coloring pencils and charcoal. They had a time limit for each pose.

I helped organized the materials for everyone and helped rip papers and clean. But there wasn’t much to do and I let Megan know if she needed anything to let me know. I was watching Megan teaching the students and she told me that I can join them too! I was excited because I wanted to join! So I join them and learned more ways to draw a model. It was relaxing to re-learn and to draw figures of their poses. Down below, I took pictures of different examples of the student’s drawings. I won’t name the students for their privacy.  The sizes of the paper were very large and they had to cover everything.

3 Different Gestures Drawings

The same student with their 3 different drawings. And each had its different material. One was with color pencil, second with ink, and third with charcoal.

Throughout this week, I came up with questions, or thoughts.

it’s never too late to learn how to draw. Everyone can draw but it takes patience and time.

A question that I have is, why do artist succeeds and other don’t?

Honestly, I don’t know the answer for that but it made me think during this week and I want to know.

Week 4 February 11-17, 2019

Community of Peace Academy, Teacher Ms. Lor, High School, 5 hours.

Minnesota Museum of American Art, 4 Hours.

This week for CPA, I helped the teacher with organizing sheets of paper of a project of one of her classes that finished. I also talked to students and got to know a few. Some wanted to know more about my education and my college and wanted some advice when I was a high school student at CPA, community of peace academy. I helped them finish their do-now’s sheets that was due on Friday. But Ms. Lor challenged me to push the students to finish their do-now’s if they haven’t done so. I was glad that some students finally asked more my help and was comfortable to ask me to help them because the other times they were shy. My goal for next week is to get to know more students. This week, the students started their new project and it is acrylic paint. Ms. Lor had them start with a sheet that was their thumbnail and had to know what their background, foreground and mid-ground was going to be. The project was to have a background, mid-ground and foreground. Then, they are going to paint the background first than the mid-ground than the foreground. She wants them to understand on what to paint first or when doing a drawing, on environments. I gave feedback to those who were finished with their thumbnails before they could start their final sketching. I ended up with Ms. Lor and I talking about my final project with her class. We decided on the date when I am going to be teaching and what period. I came up with a few ideas and we decided to go with one! I am very excited to get it started! But now my question is, what would the students learn from me?

For MMAA event was an amazing experience! I learned how to do Hmong embroidery! I also learned some key history and the tradition of the Hmong embroidery. There were supposed to be more students but they canceled so I decided to be one of her students and assist the artist. The artist taught me how to do it step by step and the easy one to learn for beginners was the easy stitching. Down below, are some pictures of the day I assist and learned Hmong embroidery. It takes months to do it by hand.

I am going to assist them on March because it’s a 3 day classes, 2 weeks ago, one class was canceled. While she was teaching me, I learned one advice from her, which inspired me and made me think about myself and my future teachings. Her advice was, ‘when you’re doing your embroidery do it when you are in positive mood because if you’re not, your embroidery is going to show. Be patience and the more you put your time and focus, it’ll show.’ And I thought to myself, that what she said was true! Even with drawings or writings. It will show your work on how much the focus or patience you put it in.

Week 3 February 3-9, 2019

Week 3 February 3-9, 2019

Community of Peace Academy, Teacher Ms. Lor, High School, 5 hours.

Minnesota Museum of American Art, 0 Hours.

This week was upsetting for me for MMAA. Unfortunately, MMAA had to cancel one of the classes I was going to shadow and help an artist named, Paj Ntaub. What she was going to teach was Hmong Embroidery. I really wanted to learn and help the artist because I have seen Hmong embroidery before and always wondered how they created from scratch and created the final embroidery. They always amazed me and they were always beautiful because it was part of their culture and it shows history, traditions, and culture. Unfortunately, the class didn’t have enough people for her to give the lesson/teach and someone from her family passed away. I really hope that they are okay. The class was a 2-day classroom, so there should be another lesson coming soon and I do hope that they don’t cancel because I really want to learn and experience first-hand on how she creates the embroidery.

With CPA, I had a really good time because I helped Ms. Lor, to put in grades and she showed me how she graded the students and their projects and their warm-ups. I also met the new students for the second semester! Some students recognize me and talked about my life and advice. I was very happy enough that they were thinking about their futures and looking for advice from a student who graduated from the same high school. I came when they were adding small details on their projects. What amazed me about the project Ms. Lor gave to the students was that all the students had the same materials and tools and they had to create a sculpture using those materials that everyone got. And the final result was outstanding! Everyone had different sculptors and no one created the same thing! But it’s crazy how they had the same tools at the beginning but different results! Ms. Lor was very excited and had this satisfy smile on her face and it made me think. It wasn’t about her project that she gave out to the student but the students that gave her. The students planned out what they wanted by using limited materials that everyone had. They gain something from this project that made me even think, that that is what I wanted in my teaching. I wanted them to gain something from projects. They created something they wanted to see and no matter how many or little materials they had, they made it work. I think that that is success in what Ms. Lor wanted.

Below I have certain examples of student final projects! They were Juniors and Seniors art class, first period.

After the classes were done, Ms. Lor and I talked about my future teaching. She said to think about what grade I wanted to work with and she also recommend that 3 period and 8th graders will be best for me because they are learning 2D and I, as an illustrator, would be good to teach one of those classes. Now, I have some ideas and I will speak more to Ms. Lor and my professor, on what works and what doesn’t work. I asked her about my education and how I wasn’t sure about if I wanted to go for my Master’s degree or my MFA. She gave me advice and it helped me know what I really wanted and I am not as confused or lost as I was before.

Week 2 January 27- February 2, 2019

Community of Peace Academy, Teacher Ms. Lor, High School, 0 hours.

Minnesota Museum of American Art, 0 Hours.

This week was a crazy week! The temperature dropped so much. I lived in Minnesota for so long and I don’t ever remember ever going this low!

So due to the crazy weather, I couldn’t go to any of my sites and I was very sad and disappoint because I was looking forward to it! At CPA, I was going to meet new students and help the art teacher Ms. Lor, who is pregnant! Very excited but also nervous!

But I used this week to start thinking about my role as a teaching artist and started thinking on what I wanted to do with it. But I really used this time to think of some ideas of projects for me to teach in Ms. Lor’s classroom. As an illustrator, I knew I wanted to do something with illustration and to teach the students in that field. But it comes down too many things that is stopping me from going beyond because one, time limit, and two, I don’t have like a week to be in the classroom to teach the students but in a day or two. But overall, I want the students to learn a technique in illustration but also create something that is themselves. I really need to brainstorm and decide what I really want to gain from this opportunity and experience with the students. But most important, for me, is the student and what they will gain from me. Will it be something they have access to at home or school? Will they use it in the future? Would they be able to do it again if I am not there?  Next week, I am planning to talk to Ms. Lor about my teaching and what grade I will be teaching. It won’t be official yet but just getting some ideas and opinions.

But I mostly worked on my final projects for my illustrations classes. I had to do an final Illustration for a class which we had to create a poster for an event and I chose, the winter Carnival in Saint Paul. Which I was having difficult on because I wasn’t feeling it or I wasn’t satisfy with what I came up with, my design. But later my teacher like it my design and told me what I was missing and how to fix certain things for the background and change certain places in the composition. I was very satisfy to see and came up with ideas to change things to be a better illustration!

Week 1: January 20-26, 2019

Community of Peace Academy, Teacher Ms. Lor, High School, 5 hours.

Minnesota Museum of American Art, 4 Hours.

In the Minnesota Museum of American Art on Sunday, January 20, 2019, they had an event called Family Day. Family day is they bring Artist to teach or create a activity for the family and adults. There was different artist with different activities and people can watch and/or participate. I was helping an artist named Senah Yeboah-Sampong & Witt Siasoco. Their activity was to make candles with the audience that hold your wisdom and wishes. They write a phrase or draw a symbol on a small, wood square. They had to write or draw something they are inspired in life or within themselves. which is then placed in a cup and covered with wax to form a candle. When they take it home and light it and when its finished, they can re-read what they have wrote or drew. My job was helping them put their squares into the cup and glue it and explaining what they had to do.

In CPA, I worked with high-school and 8th graders. Their assignment was to identify who they are and what they liked in their life or inspired. After they were finished with writing, they hand to draw a portrait of themselves. They can use any style like an animal self or cartoon or natural realistic. If they finished early they could have worked on their other assignment that they need to create an object based of a line. The students was getting comfortable around me to let me help them and help them build ideas or to add on to their ideas.

Questions I had during these events are, what makes a project a project? What can a project help the audience? Not just in that moment but in the future?

I can use this for my future as a teaching artist is by helping my students to build on to their ideas or giving them options and to create projects that can be related to the student’s life or to make them think of thing they wouldn’t have before.

Early Start: January 13-19, 2019

Community of Peace Academy, Teacher Ms. Lor, High School, 9 hours.

Minnesota Museum of American Art, 2 Hours.

The key events that took place at CPA is painting their clay objects. They had two weeks for this project. The first week was sculpting their clay to an object they wanted but had to be standing. The second week, they had to paint the base or around the object using different colors and giving them texture. But they had to understand how to mix colors based on what the teacher instructions. While they came in class, the students are learning to mix color only using the primary colors with white and black and how to had parts to the clay depending on image they wanted. The students learned to mix and depending on the color they wanted they had to mix the primary colors, to explore, by eliminating the colors that doesn’t come out the color they wanted. I asked one of the students if I can take a picture of their finished project, they wanted something that they can use in the future for their pencils.

For Minnesota Museum of American Art I only had meetings in which what kind of things I was interested in or what I wanted to gain from this experience. I got to learn more about the museum and their goals and how we can help each others goals.

During this week, I had a few questions for CPA is How can students gain from there project? Can this apply to them using in the future?

This week I learned new ways to apply for my teachings in which is having a question in the beginning of the class or question for the students to think and share it among the rest and have an example because it helps the students on what to be expected and to have an idea that can inspire them to create their own
